Carbon Offset Aircraft Charter

Air travel is essential in the modern global environment, however by making the right choices we can reduce our impact. Since October 2009 we have applied international best practice procedures to automatically biosequester, through forestry offsets, the carbon emissions generated by any charter that we organize, at no additional cost to the customer. We believe that this is an “industry first”, and that currently we are the only aviation organization in Australia offering embedded carbon offset.

In association with Greenfleet, a registered environmental charity, Independent Aviation is offsetting the carbon emissions from every charter through the planting of biodiverse Australian native forests. These forest sinks do more than take carbon from the atmosphere. Greenfleet plants a wide variety of local native trees in permanent forests that help to reduce salinity and soil erosion and provide essential habitat for native wildlife. Greenfleet was the first not-for-profit forestry offset organization to become an Approved Abatement Provider under the Federal Government’s Greenhouse Friendly™ initiative. This means the methodology behind their offset program has undergone independent scrutiny and meets appropriate standards. The organization is supported by a wide cross section of Australian businesses and major corporations, as well as by Federal and local Government Departments.

Our monthly payments to Greenfleet are based on our averaged fuel burn figures for each month and as part of the calculation we identify, and allow for, the flights that have operated at high altitude (which are more damaging in terms of their carbon emissions than low altitude flights). On this basis all air charter flights booked through Independent Aviation are 100% carbon offset, at no cost to the Customer.
